Neptune’s fountain in Signoria Square

Neptune's Fountain, Signoria Square - Picture by Luca Andreini

The imposing Neptune’s fountain in Signoria Square, Florence (1560-65). Did you know that? You can see the Gran Duke Cosimo‘s portrait in Neptune’s face. He wanted the sculptor Ammannati to celebrate him as the Greek god of the oceans, because he founded the town of Leghorn, first port of Tuscany on the Tyrrhenian See.
