Enjoy a vegan food tour in Florence! It’s a must if you want combine your passion for history and food, tasting charming off-the-radar eats. Feel the beat of the local streets and stroll through the historical heart of San Lorenzo. It’s one of the most genuine and “Florentine” neighborhoods of the city. Did you know that the architect Bernardo Buontalenti invented the gelato in Florence ? Our visit heads to San Lorenzo Central Market. Here we will taste balsamic vinegar, truffle, bread and extra virgin olive oil. We will also drink a good glass of wine, ready to leave the market and beat some of the most traditional eateries. Here we will have some of the fresh food they prepare daily. It might be caponata di verdure (stewed vegetables), pasta e fagioli (pasta with beans, so good!), ribollita (bread soup) or pappa al pomodoro (bread and tomato soup).
The Mercato Centrale di San Lorenzo (San Lorenzo Central Market) is on two levels and it’s entirely dedicated to food. It’s inside a beautiful building of glass and cast made by architect Giuseppe Mengoni. He also designed the famous Vittorio Emanuele II Gallery in Milan. This market was built between 1870 and 1874 when Florence was the capital city of Italy. It’s an imposing example of ancient and modern style mixed together, clearly inspired from Parisian architecture. This tour mixes together history and food. My vegan food tour in Florence has been also mentioned by World Vegan Travel, a Canada-based and licensed company that organizes luxury group trips for vegans and the vegan-curious. We have been also featured on The Guardian online. A vegetarian version of this food tour is also possible.
We will start with a traditional Italian style breakfast at a local cafe. Here you will taste a pure Italian espresso with a delicious pastry. The best way to perk up and start the day caffeinated! And better if you order your coffee in Italiano! Why not combining your experience with the Tour of Florence to Learn Italian? However, our vegan food tour in Florence is not over yet. We also have a wine tasting. Let’s toast with some traditional Tuscan wine paired with a tray of delicious bruschettas!
The last stop is at my favorite gelateria to have the best gelato of your life! By the way… how to recognize if it’s good gelato? Flat or piled up?
During the tour I also give you tips on where to eat in the best vegan and vegetarian restaurants of Florence.
Most people who take this tour won’t be hungry afterwards….!!
